How do we treat your lawn for nutsedge?

Nutsedge, or nutgrass, is unlike most other weeds on your lawn. That's because it's not a weed; it's a sedge. Sedges are grasslike plants that have triangular stems and tiny flowers. They can spread rapidly and are difficult to eliminate, especially when conditions are conducive to growth. Since nutsedge is not a traditional weed, it cannot be treated like a traditional weed. That is why we have adopted a unique approach to tackling nutsedge.

Instead of using our regular herbicide, we use a special herbicide that is specifically designed to target the nutsedge on your property. We apply this herbicide twice on your lawn, with the treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. The first treatment will wipe out about 60% - 70% of it and the second treatment should take care of most of the remaining nutsedge. Following this application schedule yields the best results and typically eradicates the nutsedge from your grass. However, if nutsedge persists after the second treatment, we will perform a third treatment at no cost to you in order to wipe it out fully.

Our nutsedge control treatments will eliminate nutsedge without harming your grass.

When do we treat your lawn for nutsedge?

We treat lawns for nutsedge whenever it pops up. Usually, that is when temperatures are warm in the late spring and summer. Nutsedge grows best in warm weather and moist soil, so it's common to see it begin to emerge when warm temperatures and wet weather collide in the mid-to-late spring. When you spot nutsedge on your lawn, you should not waste any time before reaching out to us. The earlier we can treat this pesky eyesore, the faster it will leave your lawn for good.

Are nutsedge control treatments available independently?

Our nutsedge control treatments are not available as an independent service. Rather, they are available as an add-on to our lawn care program. Our lawn care program features 8 fertilization and weed control treatments throughout the year, keeping your lawn supplied with nutrients and eliminating most weeds. However, it may not be enough to eradicate nutsedge. If nutsedge is covering less than a third of your lawn, we will take care of it for you at no additional cost as part of our lawn care program. But, if it's covering more than a third of your lawn, you'll need to add our nutsedge control treatments to our lawn care program!
